Israel prohibits Palestinian exports of food via the border with Jordan and the only transition to the outside world that is usually allowed for Palestinian goods. Cogat Authority (an Israeli Department of Defense department overseeing civil Palestinian activities) states that it is happening in response to the fact that in October the Palestinians stopped importing calves from Israel. Israel has also recently stopped all imports of Palestinian food from the West Bank, which could hit two-thirds of Palestinian agricultural exports. (Dates, onions, and potatoes belong to what is produced during the winter. ) The Palestinian Authority then responded by banning imports of Israeli groceries, including bottled beverages.
For entrepreneurs who trade with Palestine, this may cause difficulties in access and delivery.
